About This Site

Best Gaming PC Components publishes long-term reviews, head-to-head comparisons and step-by-step guides on the parts inside a gaming PC and the gear on the desk around it. We cover CPU air coolers, power supplies, mechanical keyboards, gaming mice and headsets, and we write for people who build and upgrade their own machines at home, one part at a time.

PC Building Safety

Always shut down, switch off the power supply at its rear switch and unplug the wall cord before you open a case or touch anything inside it. Never open a power supply unit itself: the capacitors inside can hold a dangerous charge long after it is unplugged, and a faulty unit should be replaced, not repaired.

Use only the modular cables that shipped with your power supply. Cables from other models, even from the same brand, can have different pin layouts and can destroy drives, graphics cards or the motherboard. Make sure every power connector, especially the CPU and graphics card plugs, is fully seated, since a loose high-current connector can overheat and melt.

Static discharge can damage components. Work on a hard surface, not carpet, and touch a grounded metal object or use an anti-static wrist strap before handling parts. Heatsink fins and stamped case edges can be sharp, so handle them with care.

Give your PC room to breathe. Blocked vents and dust build-up raise temperatures, so clean filters regularly with the system off. With headsets, keep the volume at a comfortable level and take breaks during long sessions to protect your hearing, and take regular breaks from the keyboard and mouse to reduce strain on your hands and wrists.

This site provides general information only. Follow the manufacturer's manual and warranty terms for every component, and consult a qualified technician if you are unsure.
